I went to an event for women where I was the speaker at the end of the day, but during the day they had lots of wonderful activities for women to get involved in.
There was painting and drawing, drumming and massage, there was nail painting, storytelling, eating, drinking and time for reading and conversation.
Now it was my job to encourage everybody to participate in the activities throughout the day… and of course those activities that are in our ‘comfort zone’ we have no problem indulging and participating in. Like, eating, drinking, chatting, and having a massage, BUT when it came to the things we had not done before, like drawing and painting and drumming well, this is what I heard…
‘Oh, I am not a good drawer’… ‘I can’t paint to save my life’… ‘I have never been musical’… ‘I will spoil it if I participate’… etc etc….
And so it took some gentle coaxing and not so gentle demanding that they participate to get them started and when they did… well they had the time of their lives, they produced art work that blew my mind and theirs, the unleashed creativity and talent that was laying dormant, they drummed freely and passionately… there was laughter and love and a fabulous energy where women walked a bit taller and looked empowered and sparkling!
And that’s what happens when you dare to go out of your comfort zone and try new things! You had no trouble doing this as children… get back to that ‘child like’ behaviour, it makes you feel alive!
We do not just exist and go through the motions, we live!
So want to get out of your comfort zone and have some fun with me! 😉
