One of the things that made the game between the Broncos and the Cowboys the other night so great, so exhilarating, so ‘best game ever’, so great to watch and experience was the battle…
It was the fact they fought hard, that it was a close game and we got to witness determination, grit, resilience, focus, disappointment, greatness and the win was fought for.
If it was the kind of game where one team just ran away with the win, we would never have enjoyed it as much… we wouldn’t be saying it was one of the great wins and we would feel a little ripped off even…
But instead we love to see people dig deeper when faced with the challenges and adversity, we come alive and feel the game when they are battling for the extra points and the win… we love it when they are exhausted and hurting and they don’t give up, somebody finds a little more and delivers a moment of brilliance, a moment that happens after the battle and the pressure and when physically and emotionally they are spent… and that is when they find that moment, a moment that leave us speechless…. and for others it will be a moment of distress and disappointment that they will get up from…
And we celebrate as we watch, we scream, we applaud, we cheer, we encourage and at times we feel like we are going to feint… well, we lived it, loved it and felt the game and we loved every minute of the battle…
Perhaps sport is closer to life than we think… perhaps your life was always supposed to be lived and loved with having the battles… the times that wear us out, the times where we feel like we are fighting so hard for the win, the times where we don’t know if we can get up again…. perhaps they are the times that keep life interesting, exciting and keep you reaching levels you never thought you had in you and keep you getting up from the disappointments because there is always another game too be played…
We think we want the easy game… you score a point, I score a point…we share nicely, and everybody is a winner today…really… who would we all be I wonder. But don’t get me wrong if you are in a battle right now I know it may not seem like so much fun as a game of footy… but hang in there, keep on and I know you will soon smell victory!
Game on!
