Last week at our ‘Professional Speakers Association’… the audience is speakers who may be just starting there speaking business right through to experienced speakers… So subject was about becoming success at ‘Public Events’ or success at speaking in general…
One of the things I challenged the audience with and I challenge anybody with is when do we get started… I started my business when Jack was 6 months old… is that the best time to start a business… who knows but it seemed as good a time as any… And I started myself business before I had fancy business cards and stationary and before I really knew what the hell I was doing… seemed a good a time as any…
I then just rolled along learning along the way and doing the best I could… and then when Flash had his stroke and then passed away my business went from being my part time passion and fun to being the income that would feed my children and pay my mortgage… and I had to keep working and taking it to a new level in and around grief and autism… is that the best time to do that… well it seemed as good a time as any and amid the chaos I took my business to the next level… seemed as good a time as any and it was necessary… necessity can challenge you in all kinds of ways…
There were times that I was leaving the house after being sworn and cursed with Autism so angry and sad and then be wondering as I got on a plane if Flash would still be there when I got home… would his heart hold out and would my boys be ok.. and so I hopped on the stage and did my thing… My sparkle is alive! As good a time as any…
And so you continue on and then one day you look back and realised you have achieved so much and things did get better and some how it all worked out ok amid the chaos and you achieved some great things…
So don’t wait for the ducks to be in a row… do ducks ever really get in a bloody row? Don’t suffer with analysis paralysis and wait until the right time… because while you are doing that other people are taking the time they have got and starting there amid the chaos and the mess… just get started and make it happen… don’t wait for it to be perfect, take where you are now and live and love it and make it great!
