Oh what a wonderful surprise Rwanda is… such a beautiful country healing and moving on after The Genocide… the people are beautiful, always dressed so beautifully in traditional fabrics and styles… they are organised and value the tourist trade… the roads are good and the streets are so clean. They have a no plastic bag policy… and I mean NONE! You are checked at the border and if you have plastic bags they will be confiscated!
The country side is beautiful and the main mode of transport in the town we are in is push bikes and motor bikes… what they carry on those bikes AND on their heads is staggering!
I did a village tour today and Betty invited us into her home… her mud home with uneven dirt and rock floors… this village sits at the base of a volcano and you can see volcanic rock everywhere… I was treated to a dress up in traditional costume and the children performed music and dance for us… we were shown how the beekeeper makes his hives…
We were taught how they made baskets and mats, ground flour and got a look at everyday life in the village… once again I am so grateful and so inspired by these resilient, courageous and beautiful people…
